The 3rd Annual Morris Benefit Poker Run is Saturday, July 31st, at Pooch's , St.Rt 88 West of Mecca Circle.  Sighs ups starting at 10a and the first bike out at 11a.  Last bike in at 5p.  Live entertainment provided by 3 bands, Bike rodeo and many bike games, Chinese Auction and more.  Cost is $10 per person  / $15 couple.  Our 2010 run recipient is 2-yr old Jayden Barber of Youngstown who is fighting for his young life after being diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma.  Donations can also be made to help out at PNC Bank % The Jayden Barber Fund".  for more info about Jayden visit his sit at www.caring bridge/JaydenBarber.org.  For info about the ride contact Charidy at 330-980-6185 or Pooch's at 330-638-0011

 

Join us for Bessemer Community Day on Saturday, July 31, where our theme is The Wild Wild West. Activities begin at 11am with food vendors, crafters, a DJ all day with games and karaoke, Car & Bike show, FD Campbell Library book sale, cake walk, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, Paws & Taws square dancers, pie social, Duck Derby, pony rides and much more.     The parade begins at 1pm.  Afterwards, there will be free ice cream for everyone compliments of Cowlicks.  Later in the evening Train Wreck with Lou Greco will perform from 7-11pm.   Bring your family for a day of fun, food and entertainment.  Remember to bring your lawn chairs.  Activities are located at the Fire Hall (5 N Main.)  Mapquest us for directions.     If you have any questions, call MaryAnn 9-noon at 724-667-7061 or Cindy 7-3 at 724-667-0990.

 

Champion Kiwanis Chicken Roast – August 1, 11:30 a.m. -2:00 p.m.  Sit-down “all you care to eat” dinner or carry-out from Champion Christian Church, State Route 305, Champion.  Menu: fire-roasted chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, brownies.  Proceeds support numerous Kiwanis community projects, including high school scholarships, all benefiting the youth of the community.  Purchase tickets at the door or before August 1 from Dr. John Barnhart’s office; Burkey, Burkey & Scher law office; Associated School Employees Credit Union; any Champion Kiwanian; or call 330-847-5161.   Join Champion Kiwanis in serving the young people of this community – and enjoy a great dinner at the same time!

The 12th Annual Lifetime Television Golf Scramble at Tam O' Shanter in Hermitage is Wednesday, August 4th.  The event has raised over $71,000 to date for the American Cancer Society to assist in providing services for breast cancer patients in our valley.  This year the event is dedicated to the memory Mary Ann Kerins.  Teams are 2 men/2 women and the entry is $75 per player / $300 per team.  Fee includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, refreshments and lots of prizes.  Hole sponsorships are $100 and are tax deductible.  For more info contact the Tam o' Shanter Pro Shop at 724-981-3552

 

Black Talon, Inc, a  (Non-profit t Group) has teamed up with friends and loved ones of the Carosella Family by sponsoring a raffle.  The family  (with 4 children) lost almost all of their personal possessions in a home robbery in March 2010  The grand prize for the raffle drawing is $500 cash.    Tickets are just $5 and can be purchased by calling Cathy at  330-518-9544.   the Drawing is August 13th, 2010.    Another option for making a donation is Farmers National Bank where a fund has been set up in to benefit the family.  Donations are accepted at any branch or by mail to 20 Broad St, Canfield, Oh 44406.  For more information:  www.blacktalon.org

 

The 3rd Annual Head Start TCAP Poker Run is Saturday, August 7th at 1643 Youngstown Road in Warren (across from Big Apple convenient store / DFL Enterprizes.).  The event is hosted by Dogz for Life Motorcycle Crew (DFL) and  includes many activities and promises a fun filled day dedicated to helping children.  $10 solo rider / $15 couples  Reister starting at 10a with first bike out at noon and last bike in at 5.  Chinese auction, live DJ, food & fun.  For more information contact bull69dfl@yahoo.com or 330-646-6842

 

The 65th Annual Green Township Firemen’s Festival will be held on August 7th, 2010 .  The event will begin at 5:00pm at the South Range Middle School on State Route 165 in Greenford.  Spot prizes drawings for the raffle will be every half hour with the 5 Grand Prizes being given away at the end of the evening.  Games will start at 6:00pm .  Come out and support the Fire Department.  This is a free family event with all proceeds going to the Green Township Fire Department.  

 

2010 Recycling Regatta!  Build and Race a Recycled Boat Saturday August 14th, 2010 at Lake Milton State ParkAll boats must be made of at least 70% Recycled Product and they must be able to be broken down and recycled after the event. NO nails, 55 gallon drums or containers that held household hazardous waste (HHW), NO old boogie boards or surfboards or motors please.  Boats may be pre-made prior to the event. For recycled product to use, you can call the Green Team, ReCreate, Youngstown Litter Control & Recycling or your local school.  For more information or entry forms, contact Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District at 330.740.7995.  To enter the REGATTA: each crew or captain must complete an entry form and release form and return it  by June 8th to Recycle Regatta, Mahoning SWCD, 850 Industrial Road , Youngstown , Ohio 44509 .   No child under 12 can man the boat, but they can help build!  The REGATTA is being held to coincide with the Mahoning River Consortium’s River Wide Picnic Day.  

 

The 3rd Annual Buddy Walk of the Valley is Saturday, August 14th from 9a-1p at the Shops at Boardman Park.  Register at 9a, meet your buddy and lineup at 10:30 and , 11a-1p relax, enjoy lunch, play games & more.  $10 registration per individual.  If you registered by July 21st you'll get a T-shirt!!!  Proceeds benefit the Down Syndrome Association of the valley  / DSAV and the vision of this organization is "for people with Down Syndrome to be active participants in a fully inclusive society".  DSAV provides resources and programs which encourage families, friends, educators and healthcare professionals to work together in building a future where everyone can live successful and productive lives.  For more information visit www.DSAV.org, e-mail info @dsav.org or call 330-726-DSAV (3728)

 

The John Thompson Scholarship Golf Scramble is Monday, August 16th, at the New Castle Country Club.  Proceeds from this outing will benefit a scholarship fund in honor of beloved Neshannock High School teacher John Thompson who passed away suddenly in April 2010.  A buffet lunch kicks off the event at 11:30am.  Shotgun start at 1:15pm.  Golf, lunch and dinner are $125 per person, lunch and golf is $95 , dinner only is $30 per person and donations can be made toward the fund by mail to Stevenson Foundation % New Castle Country Club P.O. The Angels for Animals Car Show and Poker Run takes place on August 21st at Angels for Animals 4750 W. South Range Rd Canfield Ohio 44406 . Sign up for the poker run starts at 11:30. There will be a Golf Outing to benefit the family of Gary Barnes, 29 years old, of Columbiana. Gary is currently battling the fight of his life against cancer.
